The Salmon River Fine Arts Center is proud to present “Art for Challenging Times,” a community summer program offering a variety of virtual art classes at pay-what-you-can rates.
This program is made possible thanks to a special COVID-19 relief grant from the Greater Pulaski Community Endowment Fund. “Many of us are still struggling both financially and emotionally from the effects of this pandemic,” explains Ann Buchau, board president of the art center. “Making art and taking time to relax and be creative is a wonderful way to reduce stress, which is so important to both the health of the individual and the community.”
Although classes are held online, all materials are supplied and included with registration and available for pick up the day before the class. Classes for teens to adults will be held every Tuesday morning, 10 am – noon, and children’s classes will be Thursday mornings from 10 am - 11 am. Projects and lessons will vary each week and taught by a variety of instructors. The program kicks off Tuesday, June 30th with a virtual “Quick and Loose” watercolor class taught by watercolor artist Bob Jones. Some additional classes will be held on evenings and weekends, including a virtual “Paint and Sip” class,
Here’s how it works:
Register for your class at https://salmonriverfineartscenter.square.site/classes You will be given an option of prices of what you want to pay for the class –typically starting at only $5. After you are registered, you will be sent an email with a link to attend the class and instructions including arrangements to pick up your free supplies.
In addition to this new program, the art center will also hold some outdoor social distancing classes including a Photography hike along the Salmon River, a Raku Pottery Class, as well as free Thursday night drawing classes. The Salmon River Fine Arts Center is grateful to all its sponsors who make these classes possible: the Greater Pulaski Community Endowment Fund, the John Ben Snow Foundation & Memorial Trust, the Decentralization Program, a regrant program of the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of Governor Andrew M. Cuomo and the New York State Legislature and administered by CNY Arts and the Chapman Drs. of Pulaski. At this time, the art center is still unsure when they will offer onsite classes but is currently working on reopening plans and guidelines to keep the volunteers, visitors and community safe once they resume.
