The Minetto Elementary School recently welcomed Dan Oostdyk from G&G Animals to kick off their People As Reading Partners Program (PARP).

Mr. Oostdyk presented a variety of reptiles including an 11-foot python named "Bella", an iguana named "King Tut", a 95-lb turtle and numerous others.

The PARP program runs from May 3-May 23rd this year, and the theme is "We are Wild about READING!" according to Jan Knight, Minetto Elementary School Literacy Specialist and PARP Program Coordinator.

According to Knight, the students are asked to read with a partner for 15 minutes per day, 5 days per week. As part of the program, there will also be a writing contest, and weekly contests where names will be drawn to win baskets based on the theme.

In addition, the school will be holding "Camo Day", to help raise funds to donate to G& G Animals, and their not so "cuddly" critters. At the end of the PARP program, Mr. Oostdyk will be invited back to the school for the donation presentation.
