Special hours will be in effect during Cruisin' the Campus at the Holidays for a variety of activities: public skating, hiking, walking, running, library browsing, shopping, and viewing of art, history and planetarium shows and exhibits. Tickets are available for men's and women's ice hockey and basketball games during the break, including the Pathfinder Bank Oswego State Hockey Classic on Jan. 2 and 3. Wrestling and swim contests will have free admission.

Dr. Scott Roby of the physics faculty plans free shows in the planetarium, Room 223 of the Shineman Center, at 2 and 3 p.m. Friday, Dec. 26, and at 7 p.m. Sundays in January. Seating is first come, first served.

The arena in the Marano Campus Center will be open for public ice skating at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 26 and Dec. 30; at 6 p.m. Dec. 28 and Jan. 4, 11 and 26; and at noon Dec. 29. The cost is $3 a person; skate rental is $2.

For other recreation, visitors can try running or walking some laps, for free, around the track of Romney Field House from 9 a.m. to noon Dec. 22, 23, 24, 26, 27, 28, 29, 30 and 31 and Jan. 2, and 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. weekdays from Jan. 5 to 23. Or play in Lee Hall gym from noon to 4 p.m. Dec. 26, 29 and 30 and Jan. 2 and from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays from Jan. 5 to 23, except Jan. 19. Dry sneakers are required for both.

The pool in Lee Hall will be open to the public as well, from noon to 3 p.m. Dec. 26 and 29 and Jan. 2, and then from Jan. 5 to 23 from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. weekdays.

Hockey and hiking

Walkers can dress for the weather and conditions on the free nature trails at Rice Creek, open during daylight hours. Free guided walking tours called Rice Creek Rambles are scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturdays, Jan. 10 and 24. Participants should call 312-6677 the morning of a walk to check trail conditions. The station is unable to accommodate groups, and an adult must accompany children.

Penfield Library will be open from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Dec. 22 and 23 and weekdays Jan. 5 to 23 with its millions of books, videos, magazines and CDs. In addition, the traveling exhibit "Great Shipwrecks of New York" will be on display in the library's second floor gallery from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays from Jan. 5 to 22.

Laker athletic action will kick off 2015 with the Pathfinder Bank Oswego State Ice Hockey Classic on Jan. 2 and 3 with games at 4 and 7 p.m. both days in the Marano Campus Center arena. The icemen will also play 7 p.m. games Jan. 9, 11, 23 and 24, and the women's ice hockey team will play Chatham twice, at 7 p.m. Jan. 16 and 3 p.m. Jan. 17. The women's basketball team will play at 2 p.m. Jan. 4 and 7:30 p.m. Jan. 6 in Laker Hall's Max Ziel Gymnasium. The same court will host the men's basketball team in 5:30 p.m. games Jan. 6 and 20. Wrestling and swimming and diving meets are open to the public free of charge. Laker wrestlers will host a tournament beginning at 2 p.m. Jan. 3 and compete again at noon Jan. 24, both in Laker Hall's Max Ziel Gymnasium. Swim and diving competitions are scheduled for 4 p.m. Jan. 21 and 1 p.m. Jan. 24 in Laker Hall's pool.

Oswego State Downtown at 186 W. First St. in Oswego will show the student multimedia art exhibition "Graphic Flash 4" Wednesday to Saturday afternoons through Jan. 24 (closed Dec. 25 and 26 and Jan. 1 to 3). The College Store retail outlets on campus in the Marano Campus Center and Hewitt Union will also be open many days during the winter break.

Parking will be free and no permit is required on campus during Cruisin' the Campus from Dec. 22 to Jan. 25 although reserved, handicap and overnight restrictions still apply.
