The educational and recreational opportunities spin off the college's initial Cruisin' the Campus at the Holidays, last December and January. The event highlights the activities available on campus during a week that most students spend at least Wednesday through Sunday at home.
Special hours will be in effect during Cruisin' the Campus at the Holidays for a wide variety of activities: public skating, hiking, walking, running, library browsing and other recreation, and tickets are available for men's and women's ice hockey and basketball games during the break.
Dr. Scott Roby of the physics faculty plans two free shows in the planetarium on the second level of the Shineman Center, at 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 28, and 7 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 30. The show is titled "Back to the Moon," and covers the past and future of the space program, including an immersive full-dome video about the Google Lunar Xprize. Seating is first-come, first-served.
Popular with kids and adults, the Marano Campus Center ice will be open for public skating from noon to 2 p.m. Monday, Friday and Saturday, Nov. 24, 28 and 29; 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 26; and 6 to 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 30. The cost is $3 a person; skate rental is $2.
For other recreation, visitors can try some laps, for free, around the track of the recently renovated Romney Field House from 9 a.m. to noon Wednesday, Friday and Saturday, Nov. 26, 28 and 29, and 9 to 11 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 30. Or play in Lee Hall Gym, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nov. 26 and 2 to 8 p.m. Nov. 30. Bring dry sneakers for either venue. Dress for the weather and conditions on the free hiking trails at Rice Creek, open during daylight hours.
A library full of books and CDs, periodicals and DVDs will await as Penfield Library remains open from 7:45 to 11 p.m. Monday, Nov. 24, 7:45 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday, 7:45 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Wednesday and 2 p.m. to midnight Sunday.
Varsity athletic action aplenty will dominate on Tuesday, Nov. 25, as the SUNY Oswego women's ice hockey team takes on Hamilton at 2 p.m. and the men skate against Geneseo at 7 p.m. in the Marano Campus Center arena. The men's basketball team will play Clarkson at 5:30 p.m. and the women take on Rochester at 7:30 p.m. in Laker Hall's Max Ziel Gymnasium. For ticket information, visit tickets.oswego.edu.
Finally, with holiday shopping in full swing for many, the College Store in the Marano Campus Center will be open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, Nov. 24, and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 25. The store's off-campus branch, Oswego State Downtown, will be open noon to 5 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 26; 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, Nov. 28; and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at the corner of West First and Bridge streets.
Parking will be free and no permit is required during Cruisin' the Campus, from Nov. 24 to Nov. 30, although reserved, handicap and overnight restrictions still apply.
