U.S. Rep. John Katko (NY-24) today announced $7 million in funding from the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to help bolster local efforts to combat COVID-19 and address secondary impacts of the disease.
Last week, Rep. Katko supported passage of the bipartisan, bicameral, Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act, legislation that allocated $12.4 billion for HUD to support local efforts to address COVID-19.
These grants will be directed to Onondaga County, the City of Syracuse, and the City of Auburn, to address the impact of COVID-19 on the community level, limit the spread of the disease among low-income individuals and people living with HIV/AIDS, and reduce homelessness in Central New York.
“I supported the passage of the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act because it provides crucial relief to local businesses, working families, and hospitals. Importantly, this measure allocated additional funds to HUD to support local efforts to address COVID-19,” said Rep. Katko. “$7 million will be directed to Onondaga County, the City of Syracuse, and the City of Auburn to help our local governments limit the spread of COVID-19 and address secondary impacts of this public health crisis. Each day, our local and state governments grapple with new challenges as they work to combat COVID-19 and ease the financial strain many in Central New York face. This funding will strengthen that important work and provide much-needed relief to our region.”
