U.S. Rep. John Katko (NY-24) today announced that Catholic Charities of Onondaga County has received $72,000 in funding from the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS), the federal agency for volunteering and service.

The award will be used to expand the Catholic Charities of Onondaga County’s Senior Corps program. This program empowers Central New Yorkers 55 years and older to commit time to addressing critical community needs including academic tutoring and mentoring, elderly care, disaster relief support, and more.

To boost the impact of service and volunteer organizations like the Catholic Charities of Onondaga County, Rep. Katko has previously urged House Appropriators to robustly fund the CNCS.

“I have long recognized the impact of service and volunteer organizations in Central New York and have proudly worked in Congress to empower these groups. That’s why, today, I am pleased to announce that the Catholic Charities of Onondaga County will be receiving $72,000 in funding to expand its Senior Corps program in Central New York,” said Rep. Katko. Assisting over 19,000 people in Central New York each year, this funding will improve Catholic Charities’ ability to address everything from the opioid epidemic to the poverty in our community. I applaud the Catholic Charities of Onondaga County for its efforts to create opportunities for Central New Yorkers and will continue to support these efforts at the federal level.”
