Dawn of Freedom tells the story of the refugees of World War II who were temporarily housed at Fort Ontario in Oswego from 1944 - 1946. The story is told through the actual words and memories of the refugees. It is a complex story that covers the gamut of human emotions.
Today, the Safe Haven Holocaust Refugee Shelter Museum, located on the Fort Ontario grounds, is charged with preserving the story of the refugees who called Oswego home, if only for a brief time. The story is unique to Oswego and unique within the context of the United States and World War II, as it was the only such emergency shelter in the United States for refugees of the Holocaust.
There will be two public performances of Dawn of Freedom at the Frances Marion Brown Theater in the Oswego Arts Center, also located on the Fort Ontario grounds. The performances will be Saturday October 8th at 8:00PM and Sunday October 9th at 2:00PM. For reservations, please contact The Oswego Players, Inc. Box Office at (315) 343-5138.
