Rob and Joe: Acoustics With An Edge

Whether you’re into rock, country, metal, pop or whatever, most of us can agree that there’s something very relaxing and enjoyable about an acoustic act.

The stripped down, laid back acoustic act in the corner provides a nice background while you converse with friends and family over a few drinks. Well, you won’t get that with Rob and Joe; a duo based in Central Square that takes their acoustic show to the next level with their diversity and entertainment factor. While many acoustic acts are off to the side or in the background, these two are front and center, making every show an enjoyable and entertaining experience for their fans. If you’re thinking you’ll hear the same old set lists(which many of us have come to expect form solo and duo acts), then you are in for a big surprise. Rob and Joe play a wide variety of tunes that are rarely heard in the typical acoustic set. Not only is their catalogue huge and diverse, but their sets are ever changing as they add new songs all the time to keep it fresh.

Rob and Joe Acoustic consists of guitarist/frontman, Rob Earle and Joe McSweeney(a longtime veteran of the CNY music scene and guitar virtuoso of such hard rock powerhouses, Redline and Emerald City). The combination of Rob’s pure acoustic style, gritty vocals and wildly entertaining audience interaction pairs perfectly with Joe’s incredible guitar playing and spectacular vocal range. This is a duo that can cover nearly any genre and band. This diversity is illustrated at every show, be it Rob’s soulful renditions of Bob Seger, Bruce Springsteen, my personal favorite, Copperhead Road among several other artists or Joe cranking out tunes by Bon Jovi, Skid Row, The Outfield, Jackson Browne and many more. The “Acoustics with an Edge” part comes in when Rob pulls out his state of the art harmonica rig and adds a whole new aspect to their set playing both harmonica and guitar, as well as singing and that’s not all. Just when you think you’ve gotten the most out of Rob and Joe, Mr. McSweeney will pull out the electric guitar and punch in some killer solos behind Rob’s acoustic adding even more of an edge to an already distinctive set. Oh and lets not forget that once in a while, Joe will get out the mandolin, fitting it in perfectly to some of your favorite classic rock songs. These two never let the audience wander away, keeping their attention by never taking a break for the entire show.
