“Our city is grateful for Senator Schumer’s help to secure this grant, which will ensure that the additional staffing needs of our fire department will be covered for the next three years,” said Fulton Mayor Deana Michaels. “Thanks, also, to Chief Howard for applying for this grant. Overall, this saves our city money, gives us broader coverage and makes our fire department stronger.”
The Staffing for Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER) Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), grant provides capacity dollars to hire staff for the length of the grant, said Howard. “Essentially, this means we can hire and cover costs over the next three years for four firefighters. At the end of the grant period, staffing and capacity are reassessed and decisions on next steps will be made at that time.”
