Musician, entertainer and instructor Larry Rapshaw has found a new group of eager students ready to learn to play the piano; it’s the residents at St. Francis Commons Assisted Living Residence.

The students, some with no previous musical experience at all, have taken to Rapshaw’s teaching method and found the process of learning to play a musical instrument energizing. They meet regularly for lessons, and take the opportunity to practice on their own using the piano found at the residence.

“We have a few participants who have played the piano in their youth and have already been able to play a few lines of a song while others have never played and are very excited at learning,” said St. Francis Commons Activities Director Peggy LiVoti. “Larry has the ability to combine experience and novice into one class and they are having a ball.”

Next up, students are looking forward to showing off their newly learned skills as they prepare for their first piano concert. LiVoti noted, “Folks have requested to learn Christmas music for a holiday performance!”
