It received a bronze award in the Council for Advancement and Support of Education's Circle of Excellence competition and an Award of Excellence in the Awards for Publication Excellence program.
Oswego's CASE award came in the category for individual sub-websites, which received 135 submissions and honored 13 with awards. Among other institutions receiving bronze recognition like Oswego were Boston University, Cornell University and the University of British Columbia.
The judges wrote: "SUNY Oswego's strategic plan site . . . accomplishes a difficult mission exceptionally well -- that is, making an institution's strategic planning documents engaging, attractive and navigable. The institution followed a web-first strategy by creating the site and then designing companion print pieces to align with the website. SUNY Oswego also provided engagement statistics that indicate the site has been successful at keeping users on the site and exploring the plan's contents."
The strategic plan also won recognition in the APEX sub-category for special purpose websites. The APEX competition is open to for-profit and nonprofit organizations from throughout the English-speaking world. This year's contest saw 122 entries in the websites category and bestowed 64 awards. Other winners in the special purpose websites sub-category included the Michener Institute, Alexander Graham Bell Association for the Deaf and FBMC Benefits Management.
The 2015 APEX awards were presented "based on excellence in graphic design, editorial content and the success of the entry -- in the opinion of the judges -- in achieving overall communications effectiveness and excellence," according to officials at Communications Concepts, which sponsors the awards.
