Recognition for service -- SUNY Oswego, recognized as a military-friendly college for its support of students currently or formerly in the armed forces, will host Military Appreciation Night on Nov. 20. Veterans, active duty, Guard and Reserves service members may attend the Morrisville-Oswego men's ice hockey game for free with a guest, as well as a Veterans Organization Resource Fair. Organizer Ben Parker (pictured in red shirt), veteran and military services coordinator for the college, speaks with SUNY Oswego Veterans Club members at a previous Veterans Day event on campus.

Strategic migration -- Lindsay A. Bell of SUNY Oswego's anthropology faculty and four other researchers sum up their examination of French-speaking minorities in Canada in a new book titled "Sustaining the Nation: The Making and Moving of Language and Nation" published by Oxford University Press. The team interviewed hundreds of French-speaking, non-Quebecois minorities to examine trends in globalization, mobility, culture and language among people who have experienced repeated economic displacements.
