As part of an effort by SUNY Oswego students to create a podcast series about the culture within the Rust-Belt in New York, Victoria Ushwerwood Gailinas presented a short comparison of Oswego life over the past few decades.

The Anthropology of the US class of Dr. Lindsey Bell is putting together the podcast as a way to compare how life in America has changed and to identify some of the cause and affect relationships. The subject of recent changes in Oswego was examined in detail.

"They wanted the iHeartOswego story of life here today compared to my earlier years growing up here" stated Gailinas. "I noted that malls have had an impact upon our local shopping experience and so has the internet. There is a resurgence in local shopping today through the efforts of organizations like SOLO and iHeartOswego, that only promote locally owned and operated businesses. And Oswego is still one of the very best places to raise children and families."

The presentation, which took place at the college on February 19th, was well received. Much of the discussion points are expected to be integrated into the final podcast product.
