On Wednesday, April 20th, participants of the SUNY Oswego Men's Hockey Team along with the Fraternity Brother's of Delta Kappa Kappa received The Suny Oswego Student Involvement Award For Outstanding Service Project for their campaign For The Kids.
For The Kids is a campaign that was started two years ago by the SUNY Oswego men's Hockey and the Fraternity Delta Kappa Kappa donating to The Child Advocacy Center of Oswego County. For The Kids mission is to raise awareness of child abuse and reduce its devastating impact on Oswego County.
In 2014, For The Kids started out holding one event. The last two years, the campaign has grown into several events in 2015 and 2016 from with a variety of family-oriented events. The students involved with For The Kids this year were: Tyler Fey, Shawn Hulshof, Kenneth Neil, Mackenzie Scott, Conor Malone, Ian Callahan, Kevin Reilly, Kevin Villarreal, Sarah Hard and Nicholas Drumm.
This year, the campaign heavily utilized social media. For The Kids used Facebook, Twitter, as well as Instagram to generate followers and let students and the local community know about their events. For The Kids also set up a generosity page in which many SUNY Oswego Alumni donated who were also once volunteered their time For The Kids. The group also received attention from former SUNY Oswego Alumni's Al Roker (Today Show), and Steve Levy (ESPN).

Shawn Hulshof stated, "We would like to start by thanking The Shed, Lighthouse Lanes, Yoberry, and Cam’s Pizzeria for hosting our events."
Hulshof also thanked the following businesses for their donations: Fajita Grill, Port City Spa, Aztecas, Coffee Connection, Bridge Street Pizza, Kraftees, Royal Nails, Marias, Old City, Oswego D-Bus, Lawn Shark, State Farm, Zapmytax.com, YMCA, Valti Graphics, Ace Hardware, Marks Pizzeria, and Stability Fitness.
Next year, the group would like to develop an event mainly focused on the kids with more kid friendly events. Hulshof stated, "This will allow the kids from the Child Advocacy Center to have a day full of fun and activities." For The Kids is also looking to maintain a goal of raising over $10,000 for 2017.
