The Hook: Songwriters Concert Series continues to grow in popularity. Following up on the last record setting show, the Oswego Music Hall is proud to offer up the talents of three critically acclaimed songwriters; Matt Nakoa, Sheralyn Jeanne and Travis Knapp who will host the Friday, April 14, 2017 event.

The Hook is a concert series highlighting songwriters in a unique format, bringing the power of three individually talented artists into one space. Their talent and energy will grace the Music Hall stage located at the McCrobie Building, 41 Lake Street, Oswego. Doors open at 7:00 for the 7:30 event.

Matt Nakoa is an internationally touring singer/songwriter, recently appearing at The White House, throughout India, and regularly with folk icon Tom Rush. Growing up on a small goat farm in rural NY State, Matt discovered music as a means of teenage escape and trained to be a concert pianist. After school, Matt landed in NYC’s vibrant piano bar scene. There he quickly became a star performer at Manhattan’s famous Brandy’s Piano Bar, with lines waiting outside the door each Saturday night. As if illustrating two sides of himself, Matt’s first album, Light In The Dark (2012), is a sweeping pop opus, while A Dozen Other Loves (2014) explores an intimate acoustic palette. Across the board his song craft has garnered awards, including a win at Kerrville Folk Festival’s prestigious New Folk Competition. Though not easily pinned down, “In sum,” as a recent review put it, "Matt Nakoa is a musical adept, one of those well kept secrets you just can’t help but celebrate: intimate and genuine, soulful and bittersweet, a rich poetic songbook sung in praise to a complicated, emotionally present world." Sheralyn Jeanne Born and raised in Syracuse, NY, Sheralyn Jeanne has picked up many styles and techniques from watching and involving herself in open jams, local bands, live shows, choirs, churches, schools, and more. After exploring many different approaches to a career in music including achieving an A.A.S. in Music from Onondaga Community College, her love for writing and recording original music prevailed. After her 2016 SAMMY award winning album with local Syracuse band, Early Bird Trio, Sheralyn was quickly on her way to a solo career where she would begin to explore a fresh approach to the modern day singer/songwriter genre. She strives to create a unique sound that is focused on the singer and lyrics but also incorporates a mixture of folk, jazz, and experimental music. Heavily influenced by Bon Iver, Radiohead, Becca Stevens, Kim Janssen, and traces of her love for music history, you'll never know what to expect.

Travis KnappTravis Knapp's music is uplifting folk-soul, primarily featuring clawhammer banjo, vocals, danceable grooves, and audience singing. His third album, "All the Stars You Hold," was released this past year in Ithaca - with both a conventional full-band release show, as well as an eclectic and well-received circus show to a live band performance of the album. The Friends of Bound for Glory (the country's longest-running live folk radio broadcast) selected his solo performance as this year's "Best of Bound for Glory," This winter, Travis was on a bicycle-powered house concert tour from Oakland, CA to Vancouver, BC.

Author and activist Starhawk says, "Travis Knapp is a brilliant musician with a resonant voice. His songs are uplifting and strong, kindling a sense of hope and optimism. He is very impressive." Exlpore Travis’ music at: http://www.travisknapp.com/
