Write a commentThe Rho-Lambda chapter of Tau Kappa Epsilon (TKE) recently held the first Oswego Community Cares Day, a community centric event held at The American Foundry Sunday, Oct. 13.
The event showcased the best of both the SUNY and City communities by having a array of raffle prizes donated by local establishments and performers from the campus. Proceeds of the event benefited St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital. The mission of St. Jude Children's Research Hospital is to advance cures, and means of prevention, for pediatric catastrophic diseases through research and treatment with the consistent with the vision of founder Danny Thomas – no child is denied treatment based on race, religion or a family's ability to pay.
The dozens of attendees at Oswego Community Cares Day were treated to a delicious chicken BBQ dinner served by The American Foundry. A meaningful speech was given by Oswego County clerk, Michael Backus, a huge supporter and sponsor of the event. Backus spoke of the importance of community and events such as this one.
Comedian and SUNY Oswego student, Sarah Benson, had the crowd laughing and band "Our Friend's Band" had the audience on their feet dancing. Performances were also given by student Eric Corp and singer Blou.
The Tau Kappa Epsilon Fraternity would like to thank everyone in attendance at the event, the generous event sponsors and all of the local establishments who donated prizes for the event. They plan on holding this event next year and hope for a larger crowd and to be able to donate a larger profit to the cause.
