Tyler Thompson made his Novelis Supermodified debut on Saturday night at Oswego Speedway, leaving little doubt that the 16-year old driver is ready for all challenges.

In just his second afternoon behind the wheel of a 900-horsepower Super, Thompson timed trialed around the fast 5/8 mile at 16.822 seconds, clocking in at 133.753mph. Thompson’s lap was 11th overall in the field, just a tenth of a second shy of seasoned veterans Dave Danzer, Dave Gruel and Chris Perley.

In race trim, Thompson battled with 2016 International Classic champion Jeff Abold, to finish 5th in his heat race before moving on to the prestigious Jim Shampine Memorial Twin 50 main events.

Thompson appeared poised for a top ten finish in his first ever Supermodified main event until a faltering Dan Connors Jr. came across his path, resulting in contact which knocked Thompson out of the running on lap 27.

The Team Tapout crew did a fantastic job to repair the No. 98T in time for feature two, with Thompson coming home with an 11th place lead-lap effort, clocking in the 7th fastest time of the feature.

Thompson’s efforts have him currently standing as the leading rookie in Oswego’s Novelis Supermodified division.

“I want to thank all of our sponsors and my team for putting us in such great position to compete at Oswego Speedway,” said Thompson. “We look forward to continuing to improve as the year progresses.”

Thompson was also in action behind the wheel of his Team Tapout No. 98T Sportsman machine over the weekend, driving to another 8th place effort at Brewerton Speedway on Friday night.

This weekend will see Thompson compete three nights on the dirt with action at Brewerton Speedway on Friday, Fulton Speedway on Saturday and Utica-Rome Speedway on Sunday.

Thompson will next compete at Oswego Speedway on Saturday, June 9.
