The USOswego event is free for veterans and consists of a breakfast, a matinee variety program and an evening dinner theater to show support for, and appreciation of, our local veterans.
The USOswego Veteran's Day Breakfast will be held on Wednesday, November 11th, at the Community Center of the Oswego Alliance Church. The church is located at 371 Thompson Road in Oswego, which is across from the main entrance to SUNY Oswego on Route 104 West. The breakfast will consist of eggs, pancakes, sausage, ham, potatoes, toast and real maple syrup. Coffee and juice will also be provided. Breakfast will be served from 7:00 am to 10:00 am, and will be free of charge for veterans, as well as children aged 12 and under. Veterans will need to present an ID, such as used at the VA, or a copy of their DD-214 as 'proof of service'. Non-veterans will be asked to provide a $7 donation for breakfast.
On Friday, November 13th, the USOswego event will consist of two performances of a variety show in the style of past USO shows performed for our fighting troops in remote locations. This year's event will try to touch upon the style of multiple Armed Forces campaigns from the past. The show, with or without dinner, is free for veterans. As with the breakfast, 'proof of service' for free veterans entrance will be a military ID or a DD-214. Both shows will be performed at the American Foundry located on Route 104 West across from Dunkin Donuts and behind Fajita Grill.
The afternoon matinee USOswego show is scheduled as follows: doors open at 1:30, show starts at 2:00, doors close at 3:30. No food will be served for this afternoon performance though a cash bar will be available.
The evening USOswego dinner show is scheduled as follows: doors open at 6:00, dinner at 7:00, show starts at 8:00, after-show dance party and doors close at 10:00. Dinner selection will be fresh-carved turkey dinner with dressing with golden raisins, mashed potatoes with onions, cranberry sauce, carrots with orange glaze and salad. Coffee or tea will be served and a cash bar will be available.
For those non-veterans wishing to attend one of the USOswego events, tickets are priced at $7 for the breakfast, $15 for the matinee show and $40 for the evening dinner theater show. Tickets may be purchased by visiting http://www.USOswego.com or in person at 29 West Seneca Street. Veterans need to go to the website to reserve their free space. Seating is limited, so please reserve your spot!
To allow the breakfast, matinee show and dinner theater to be free for veterans, this event is being prepared and presented completely by volunteers donating their time and energy. The USOswego team consists of Jennifer Gordon (Jumpin' Jive), Tammy Lynn Wilkinson (Theatre du Jour), Matthew Wood (On The Porch Radio Hour), Nathan Emmons (Just Push Play Productions), Kyle Cheeley (King Arthur Suites), Victoria Usherwood Gailinas (iHeartOswego) and Phil Gailinas (iHeart Corp). All of the show performers are volunteering their time and talents to this event as well.
