Two occupants had requested an ambulance to their residence after experiencing dizziness, confusion, and other symptoms. The ambulance crews requested the response of Scriba Fire after they began experiencing symptoms as well.
Scriba responded with a chief officer and an engine crew. The County Haz-Mat team, County Coordinators, Oswego Fire, Minetto Fire, and Cody Fire were requested to the scene to assist with manpower and specialized metering equipment. It was determined that pesticide was inadvertently aerosolized in the residence, leading to exposure of the occupants and ambulance crews.
No firefighters were injured during the incident; the occupants, and ambulance crews were evaluated at an area hospital and expected to make a full recovery. This incident highlights the importance of following manufacturer instructions for dispersal, clean up, and disposal of cleaning chemicals and pesticide agents.
