The Redbud Summer Institute is now accepting applications for its summer 2026 program in environmental ethics.
Based at SUNY Oswego and led by two professors of philosophy, this is an opportunity for young people to explore deep questions about their relationship to the natural environment and what they can do to improve it. The 5-day program includes outdoor seminar-style discussions, nature walks, guest speakers, and a field trip to Silver Tree Forest Farm in Owasco, NY to learn about sustainable and regenerative agriculture.
"With all of the problems in the world these days, it's easy to feel powerless and adrift. It doesn't have to be that way, though. Our goal with Redbud is to give young people a space to slow down, find community, and ask hard questions about what we can be doing together to build a better planet," says Mike Gadomski, Assistant Professor of Philosophy at SUNY Oswego and one of the program's organizers. "The beautiful environment here in Oswego and the surrounding region is a perfect place to ground these conversations."
The program runs from June 30-July 2 and July 6-7, with a break for the holiday weekend in the middle. It is designed for anyone aged 17-20, though all applications will be considered. There is a $100 registration fee, with aid available for those who need it. Lunch and snacks will be provided each day. Participants will receive a certificate of completion at the end of the program.
Those interested should apply here ASAP. More information can be found here and by emailing [email protected].
