Write a commentRepresentatives from the Oswego County Office for the Aging visited The Gardens Assisted Living Community in Oswego in recognition of World Elder Abuse Awareness Day.
The two visitors shared information with residents and staff regarding services offered through the Office for the Aging, and what to do if they suspect elder abuse.
“We are actively beginning our initiative to raise awareness throughout Oswego County of the issue of elder abuse. It’s not just physical abuse; neglect, psychological abuse, financial abuse and exploitation are all forms of elder abuse. Unfortunately, abuse from family members is the most common. By raising awareness of elder abuse we seek to empower community members so that in the event they suspect elder abuse they will know how to recognize it and the steps they should make to correctly report it.
