Oswego Harborfest is certainly known for its reputation as one of the few admission free music festivals in the nation. However, Harborfest is much more than a music fest as it is also a celebration of and for children.
The Novelis Family Park provides sensational and exciting participatory activities. Once again in 2015 former Oswego City School music teachers Bobbie Palange and Rocky Farden will provide an unforgettable experience for not only children, but parents, siblings, grandparents, relatives and festival attendees.
For the past few years, under a huge tent in West Park, a standing room audience has applauded the talents of school age children. There have been musicals saluting the obstacles faced by immigrants coming to America and the story of Peter Pan.
This year the Children's Park Committee is proud to announce another production.
Palange said, "Harborfest proudly announces that we will be doing 'Wonderland', based on the novel 'Through the Looking Glass' by Lewis Carroll."
With the book by James DeVita and music and lyrics by Bill Francoeur, the show will presented on the Children's Stage several times during the July 23-26 event. However, before the show goes on there needs to be a cast.
Palange said, "Auditions will be held at the McCrobie Building, 41 Lake Street in Oswego, on Wednesday, April 15 and Thursday, April 16 between 5 p.m. and 7 p.m."
Students in grades three through ten are invited to audition. Children auditioning should be prepared to sing "My Country 'tis of Thee" and "Happy Birthday" as well as read for parts.
