In December, the CiTi BOCES Migrant Education program successfully hosted three Virtual Art Workshops, offering migrant students an engaging space to explore creativity online.

Ahead of the sessions, hands-on art kits were delivered to students’ homes, ensuring everyone had the materials needed to participate fully. During the workshops, students experimented with physical art, collaborated with peers, and expressed themselves in a supportive, interactive environment through digital instruction. Parents joined alongside their children, fostering shared learning and meaningful connections. Bilingual support made the workshops accessible and welcoming for all participants.

“The online Virtual Art Workshops created a welcoming space where migrant students and their parents could learn side by side, ask questions in real time and foster meaningful connections with peers and educators across distance,” reflected Jenna Vaccarelli, Director of Migrant Education. “Virtual art workshops provide migrant students with accessible, creative spaces that support social-emotional well-being and creativity through interactive activities and bilingual support.”

These sessions highlighted how art can bridge distance, strengthen community and help build student futures in a creative way.
