Oswego Defensive Effort Grounds Hawks

The Oswego State men's basketball team held the New Paltz Hawks without a field goal for the first 13:27 of the game in cruising to a 73-57 win. The Lakers up their record to 8-8 overall and 5-4 in conference while snapping a three-game losing streak. New Paltz falls to 4-11 (1-7) on the season.

Oswego raced out to an 18-2 lead in the first 11 minutes of play as Liam Sanborn scored six points on a pair of jumpers and a layup to set the pace. The team would extend that lead to as much as 24 as seven different Lakers got involved in the scoring. Jamir Ferebee, Ian Schupp, and Tyler Pierre all chipped in seven points apiece to secure a 41-20 advantage heading into the halftime break.

The Lakers pushed the lead up to 26 on a Josh Ivey 3-pointer at the 11:08 mark of the second half that made the score 60-34. New Paltz chipped away but couldn't get any closer than 14 with just over three minutes left in the half.

Sanborn led Oswego with 18 points while Pierre (15 points, 14 rebounds) and Ivey (13 points, 13 rebounds) notched double-doubles. Dylan Balducci paced the Hawks with 13 points.

The men's basketball team is back in action this Saturday at 3 p.m. as they host Cortland. The Lakers dropped their first meeting of the season with the Red Dragons, 77-70, back on December 2.
