Oswego Reaches 15 Wins with Victory Over Caz

OS Volley Ball

The Oswego State volleyball team reached the 15-win plateau quicker than any Laker team in over a decade with a 3-0 (25-15, 25-13, 25-23) victory over Cazenovia College on Tuesday night in Max Ziel Gymnasium. With the triumph, the Lakers are now 15-6 on the year while the Wildcats drop to 4-11.

Oswego used a dual threat on offense, as junior Megan Russell and freshman Ariel Murawski both finished with double-digit kills. Most impressively was at the rate in which they were successful on the attack, as Russell ended with 13 kills at a .611 clip while Murawski was not far behind with 10 kills on a .556 hitting percentage.

Junior Lauren Edwards took the pleasure of setting up the pair on the night, finishing with a match-high 24 assists. Also registering multiple assist on the night were Lindsey Champitto (5), Alison Berger (3) and Mary Montagnola (2).

The digging duties were spread pretty evenly between the Lakers, with Montagnola pacing the squad with six. Edwards had the next most with five while senior Kim Cassa had four.

On defense, Alison Sullivan had a contest-high five blocks, all coming in assist fashion. Senior Kelsey Dillon also had all of her blocks come in the assist variety, recording the second-most with four.

Oswego will return to SUNYAC action for its next match, as it faces New Paltz at 5 p.m. on Friday for conference pool play, hosted by Plattsburgh. The Lakers will then face Buffalo State at 10 a.m. on Saturday and the host Cardinals immediately following at 12:30 p.m.
