Naturalist-guided Rice Creek Rambles will take place at 11 a.m. on the following Saturdays this fall: Sept. 19 and 26; Oct. 3, 17, 24 and 31; Nov. 7, 21 and 28; and Dec. 5. To explore the trails and wetlands, call 315-312-6677 the morning of each hike to check conditions. Since program size is limited, the walks cannot accommodate groups, and an adult needs to accompany children.

Story Hour programs, in partnership with the Read Aloud 15 Minutes national initiative, will take place at 11 a.m. on the Saturdays of Sept. 12, Oct. 10, Nov. 14 and Dec. 12. Designed for elementary-age children -- though all are welcome -- Story Hour shares tales of nature, animals' wild ways and how people relate to the world around then. An adult needs to accompany children and program size is limited.

Bird banding will resume this fall at Rice Creek. Visitors are welcome to observe the capture, banding and release of resident and migrating songbirds.

Two big events at SUNY Oswego, in particular, welcome all to Rice Creek: Those attending Family and Friends Weekend may visit 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 23, or 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 24. Alumni and family visitors to the college's first-year revival of Homecoming Weekend can stop in from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 13, or 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Nov. 14.

Rice Creek Field Station's regular hours are 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. weekdays and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on most Saturdays. Trails are open during daylight hours. Parking is available by the main building and near the gate, which is on Thompson Road, about 1 mile south of State Route 104.
