At last night’s Common Council meeting, the resolution to approve the special use permit application for Leafy Wonders did not carry.

The council was split in their decision, with Councilors Jeff Cobb (4th Ward), Doug Chapman (2nd Ward), and Michael Farnham (1st Ward) voting yes. Councilor Audrey Avery of the 5th Ward abstained, and Council President Don Patrick of the 3rd Ward was absent.

As a result of the failed motion to approve the permit—which is not the same as a denial of the application—the council set a special meeting to address the permit application for this coming Tuesday, March 12, at 7pm. The meeting will take place in the Council Chambers on the 2nd floor of the Fulton Municipal Building at 141 S. 1st St.

In other business, four public hearings were set for Tuesday, March 19, at 7pm, during a regularly scheduled meeting of the Fulton Common Council.

The hearings are to address the following matters:

  • The potential creation of a vacant building registry
  • An amendment regarding existing laws related to unsafe buildings
  • The potential addition of a public safety committee to the public charter
  • Setting of a fee for zoning related to the special use permit application, which will impact any other cannabis dispensaries who apply to do business in Fulton

To participate in public hearings at Fulton Common Council meetings, residents are required to sign up prior to the start of the meeting on the sign-up sheet for the hearing they wish to participate in. Note that if someone is quoted by another commenter during the public hearing, they will be given an opportunity to respond.
