OSWEGO, N.Y. — The Oswego County Historical Society invites families to its annual Family Fun Days event on Sunday, Aug. 16 from 1 to 3 p.m. on the lawn of the Richardson-Bates House Museum, 135 E. Third St. in Oswego.

This free event offers families a nostalgic afternoon featuring traditional Victorian-era games on the lawn like a clothes pin drop, a duck pond, and other lively hands-on activities. The first floor of the museum will be open for a special picture scavenger hunt for children and their families. Families can also enjoy complimentary ice cream sundaes courtesy of Stewart's Shops.

Family Fun Day has historically been held in August close to namesake Max Richardson's birth date, but this event also pays tribute to Richardson's nephew Norman Bates. Bates inherited the home in 1910 and lived there with his wife Florence and their four children: Betty, Norman Jr., Sally and Maxwell.

"It would have been quite lively with four children running around," said Mary Kay Stone, past president of the Historical Society, of the Bates family's time in the home, and that liveliness is what event organizers are excited to bring to this year's Family Fun Day.
