Joe Crookston combines his enchanting stories and catchy melodies to create a magical evening at Oswego Music Hall on Saturday January 9th at 7:30 pm.
Come be mesmerized as Crookston uses fiddle, guitar, and banjo to create a world full of music, laughter and beautiful lyrics. Crookston’s performance embodies an Irish term “the Long Note”, a place of resonance and transcendence where the music, the voices, the instruments, and the community come together in unity.
Ithaca native Crookston’s shows are truly a one of a kind experience. His specialty is storytelling through song, and few do it better. You’ll be transported through humorous stories, historic tales and vivid worlds, all through the power of his lyrics. His quirky mastery of songwriting creates a show the likes of which you have never experienced before. He has even been compared to storytelling greats like Woody Guthrie and American blues/folk legend Townes Van Zandt.
From his mastery of the slide guitar and fiddle to his crystal clear voice, a reviewer from The Winnsboro TX News puts it best, saying “In fact, [Crookston] is so good at everything that you forget how hard he’s working.” Crookston’s latest self-produced release “Georgia I’m Here” has a little something for everyone with new originals like the title song, covers like “Impermanent Things” and even reincarnations of old favorites like “Fall Down as the Rain.” The common thread through all of the songs is the story element, one that will surely be enjoyed at his live performance.
Overlooking the shore of beautiful Lake Ontario, the Oswego Music Hall offers a wonderfully intimate venue in which to enjoy Crookston’s music.
