John W. Allen, Sr., 74, a resident of West 5th Street in Oswego, passed away Saturday at his home. He was surrounded by his family.

Mr. Allen was born in Oswego, the son of the late Maurice and Mary (Dawson) Allen. He was a life resident of the area. He was the husband of the late Carolyn (Thomas) Allen, who died in 2003. Prior to his retirement, he was employed as an operator with the Breneman Shade Cloth factory in Oswego. He was a member of the American Legion, Post #268 in Oswego.

He is survived by five daughters, Kandy (Lenny) Besaw of Hannibal, Karol (Mark) Shear of Oswego, Mary Motyka of Oswego, Penny (Darrell Gamble) Saya of Colorado, and Konnie (Bernie) Crowe of North Carolina; two sons, John Allen, Jr. of Fulton, and Jamey Allen of Georgia; three brothers, Ray (Bernie) Allen of Oswego, Tim (Loretta) Allen of Oswego, and Glenn (Punky) Allen of Oswego; a sister, Shirley (John) McLaughlin of Oswego; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a sister, Debbie Calkins.

Funeral services will be held at 7:00 Sunday, at the Dain-Cullinan Funeral Home.

Calling hours will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 Sunday, prior to the service, at the funeral home, 112 East Second Street in Oswego.
