The Literacy Coalition of Oswego County (LCOC), is hosting “Raising Kids Who Read” featuring author Daniel Willingham for three free presentations at the Oswego County Fair, August 12, Sandy Creek, it was announced by Carri Waloven, event chairperson.

“The 20-minute sessions are at 1:00, 2:00, and 3:00 p.m. in the Entertainment Building at the fair and we are offering free bus transportation to the event and free children’s activities while parents are attending the sessions,” Waloven said. “Daniel Willingham’s book, ‘Raising Kids Who Read: What Parents and Teachers Can Do,’ is the core of these presentations.  The first 500 children will receive free backpacks with books and school supplies.

“Willingham and the book address why kids tend to lose interest in reading before adolescence, and he will provide practical solutions for engendering a love of reading that lasts into adulthood. LCOC wants to foster a love of reading among families in Oswego County so that reading as a hobby becomes reading with a purpose.
