Friends of Recovery Oswego County is excited to announce a new lactation room at their Recovery Community Outreach Center thanks to the Oswego County Opportunities Breastfeeding, Chestfeeding and Lactation Friendly New York (BFFNY) Program.

The lactation space is designed for breast/chest feeding, pumping, and infant feeding needs, ensuring that parents have access to a quiet, comfortable environment while participating in activities and other support services at the center. This room is stocked with nursing pads, sterilizer bags, kids' toys and books, outlets for pumps, and a reclining chair to make the experience comfortable.

“Providing a dedicated lactation room is more than a convenience—it’s an essential part of supportive recovery and outreach work” said Virginia Bough, Executive Director at the RCOC. “A private, comfortable space for nursing or pumping sends a clear message: you belong here, your child belongs here, and your healing matters.”

The new room also aligns with wider public health efforts to support breast/chest feeding parents, promote early childhood health, and improve equity in recovery care. By acknowledging the unique needs of pregnant and parenting individuals, the RCOC reinforces its role as a safe, inclusive space for people from all backgrounds.

“We were so proud to present Friends of Recovery with their certification, recognizing their dedication to empowering families and their commitment to providing accessible spaces for everyone” said Kimberly Zimmer, the BFFNY Program Manager. “Working together has been a joy, and we're excited about the positive impact we are making in our community!”
