Write a commentSponsored by AARP, the Oswego County Volunteer Tax Aide program offers free counseling, preparation, and e-filing of taxes for residents of Oswego County, regardless of age or income, with special emphasis for those age 60 and older.
Preparations of 2024 Federal and State taxes will begin on Tuesday February 4 in Oswegoat the McCrobie Civic Center located at 41 Lake St., every Tuesday until April 15. In Fulton, preparations will begin on Wednesday February 5 at the Fulton Municipal Building located at 141 S 1st St., every Wednesday until April 9. The hours will be 9am–3pm at both sites.

Beginning Monday, January 20, taxpayers may call 315-320-6140 to schedule an appointment at either site. You must leave your name and telephone number for a tax aide volunteer to call you back to set up the appointment. Prior to your arrival, a new taxpayer intake pamphlet needs to be filled out. Intake pamphlets can be found at the libraries in Oswego, Fulton, and Phoenix, and at the tax preparation sites.
If you have more than one tax return to be prepared, let the tax aide volunteer know when scheduling your appointment. Make sure you bring your social security card and a picture ID to your scheduled appointment along with other pertinent information listed on the intake pamphlet.
In coordination with the IRS, AARP Volunteer Tax Aides receive annual mandatory training and are required to be certified each tax season. Training includes current federal and state tax laws, specific to personal tax returns and those provisions of the tax code that affect older people.
