The Oswego Garden Club held their annual summer picnic under the pavilion at Wright's Landing on Monday evening. A Hawaiian luau theme saw the pavilion decorated with leis and tropical flowers.
"The Oswego Garden Club was founded in 1932," said President Amy Ponzi-Pelow. "and we became affiliated with the Federated Garden Clubs of New York State in 1947."
Ponzi-Pelow said that the local chapter has about 35 members from Oswego, Fulton, Minetto, Pulaski and Hannibal. "We are accepting new members if there are any interested gardeners out there," Ponzi-Pelow said. "We have an Oswego Garden Club Facebook page where interested gardeners can find out more information."
The club members presented two scholarships to graduating high school seniors at the event. Ethan Wisniewski from G. Ray Bodley High School was awarded the Helen Pfaff Memorial Scholarship and Vincent Salerno, also a Bodley senior, was awarded the Ruth Sayer Memorial Scholarship. Both recipients will be attending SUNY-ESF in Syracuse: Salerno this September, and Wisniewski in 2025 following a stint in the US Army Reserves.
The scholarship awards were presented by club President Amy Ponzi-Pelow and Scholarship Committee Chair Deb Jaskula.
