Monday June 15, the Oswego Garden Club presented two five hundred dollar scholarships to seniors both going to Paul Smith's College, Olivia Kapuscinski and Gabriella Veyan.
At the annual picnic, held at Travis Floral Shop's lovely greenhouse venue, Olivia Kapuscinski received the Ruth Sayer Scholarship given to a senior who is interested in pursuing further education in line with the Garden Club's goals to promote interest in gardens, to undertake projects of civic endeavor, community beautification and the conservation of wild flowers and native plants, stimulating the knowledge and love of gardening.
Olivia's family has always valued experiencing nature in a hands-on way and Olivia hopes to tend to the natural world as she learns more about environmental sciences. Olivia's family attended the picnic and support her in her endeavors.
Gabriella Veyan received the Helen Pfaff Memorial Scholarship. She will also pursue further education in environmental science at Paul Smith's College and wants to learn about plants around the world and promote conservation. Gabriella's mom attended the picnic and they were enthusiastic about caring for the environment.
The Oswego Garden Club organized in 1939 is proud of their commitment to help seniors pursue their educational goals in alignment with our own and hope to continue this practice for years to come. Thanks to the community for your support. We will have a fall plant sale again at Richardson Bates House. And thank you to Travis Floral Shop for the lovely venue for our picnic this year.
