As part of the Speedway's rookie orientation program, it is mandatory that all driver's competing for the Butler Disposal Services Rookie of the Year title start in the rear of their qualifying heat race for the first three races of the season. If after three events the rookie driver is deemed to have shown a consistent and good racing line, accompanied with sufficient lap speeds, that driver will be allowed to start in their handicap qualifying position during the fourth event of the season.
     The time is now for this stacked field of seven SBS rookies to join the lead pack and begin their next progression as Oswego Speedway race drivers.
     DIRT Sportsman standout Jeremy Pitcher currently leads the rookie standings driving the TNT Motorsports No. 14. Pitcher, a rookie to Oswego Speedway and asphalt racing, is in no way a rookie to auto racing as he has been declared Fulton Speedway's Sportsman track champion on more than one occasion.
     With 223 points scored so far this season at Oswego, Pitcher has already posted two top 10 finishes in 2013 and has impressed many by earning the D&S Landscaping 'Hard Charger' award in consecutive weeks.
     Trailing Pitcher by just 18-points is a true rookie to 'big-car' racing, Anthony Losurdo. A graduate of quarter midget and kart racing, Losurdo is just 15 years old but has quickly adapted to SBS racing at the Speedway.
     Driving the Losurdo Racing/HRW Construction No. 1, Losurdo has shown tremendous speed early on in his career, reaching as low as the 19.3 second range on the watch. With a top finish of 12th so far this year coming on May 11, Losurdo is poised to start up front and continue the learning curve at the Speedway.
     Riding third in the rookie standings is the driver of the No. 76, Scott Shafer. A graduate and champion of stock car racing, Shafer has two top 15 finishes to this point of the season with a season best 13th place finish on May 11. Shafer trails Losurdo by only sevens point for second in the standings, and is currently 25 markers out of the rookie point lead.
     Filling out the remainder of the rookie championship heading into this Saturday's events are Dan Abt, Zach Amo, Nathan Noto, Greg O'Connor, and Scott Black.
