From classroom reading challenges to district matchups and a final showdown at the county level, students from the Oswego City School District showed strong teamwork and a love of reading throughout this year’s Battle of the Books.

The annual event challenges students to read a selected list of books and compete in fast-paced question rounds that test recall, comprehension and teamwork.

District-level winners included Kingsford Park Elementary School’s grades 3/4 team of Sawyer Boeckmann, Somahng Lee and Dillon Mumm; Frederick Leighton Elementary School’s 5/6 team featured Merrick Buck, Alea Casper and Caitlyn Joyce; Oswego Middle School’s 7/8 team Grace Natoli, Nicole Schrouder and Margaret Tesoriero.

That dedication carried through to the county competition, where Oswego teams earned top honors.

The grades 3/4 team captured first place, while the grades 7/8 team earned second place after a strong run through the competition season.
