Assembly Republican Leader Ed Ra (R-Franklin Square) issued the following statement regarding a memo released today by the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA).
The memo outlines compliance cost projections associated with implementation of the state's energy mandates. NYSERDA estimates when fully implemented, upstate residents would experience costs in excess of $4,000 while New York City residents would see annual gross costs of $2,300.
"The memo sent by NYSERDA today confirms exactly what members of the Assembly Minority Conference have said for years. Energy costs are climbing and we need to immediately move away from illogical and unrealistic mandates that simply do not match current market capacity. While the cost estimates from NYSERDA may have surprised some, it pales in comparison to the sticker shock energy consumers are feeling every month,
Our current energy crisis is why the Assembly Minority Conference introduced our "Lights On With Energy Relief (LOWER)" plan designed to immediately provide significant financial relief to overwhelmed ratepayers and identify long-term countermeasures to combat Democrats' radical climate mandates.
NYSERDA's numbers prove as much, despite state leadership's willful ignorance. I hope this is the needed wake-up call to end the mandates and implement a true all-of-the-above energy approach that prioritizes affordability, reliability and feasibility.
New Yorkers cannot afford to shoulder thousands of dollars in additional heating costs because Albany refuses to correct course. The state's future energy policies must first prioritize what New Yorkers can afford, rather than what environmental extremists want."
