Rapper Lupe Fiasco to headline April 20 concert at SUNY Oswego

     Lupe Fiasco, a rapper noted for music on controversial social and political issues, will perform at 8 p.m. Saturday, April 20, in SUNY Oswego's Campus Center arena.

     Doors will open at 7 p.m. Air Dubai, a hip-hop band from Denver, will open the concert.

     The 31-year-old Grammy winner, born Wasalu Muhammad Jaco, rose to fame with his 2006 debut album, "Lupe Fiasco's Food & Liquor." The Chicago-based rapper and record producer last August released Grammy-nominated "Food & Liquor II: The Great American Rap Album Pt. 1."

     Fiasco, whose label is with Atlantic Records, won a Grammy in 2008 for best urban/alternative performance for his track "Daydreamin'," featuring Jill Scott, from "Food & Liquor."

     "Superstar," the lead single from his 2007 album " The Cool," hit No. 10 on the Billboard 100. Fiasco also released the album "Lasers" in 2011, featuring "Words I Never Said."

     Fiasco's site bills his latest album as "much more than a mere sequel; instead, equal halves American history documentary and honor roll rap skill exhibition." On his concert lineup after Oswego are performances May 3-5 in Norway.

     David Greco, concerts coordinator for the Student Association Programming Board at SUNY Oswego, said ticket sales topped 1,000 in the first eight or nine days of availability. The Student Association-funded organization holds concerts, movies, lectures and special events.

     Tickets are $20 ($10 for SUNY Oswego students) are available all SUNY Oswego box offices, online at tickets.oswego.edu or by calling 315-312-2141. Floor tickets are sold out; stadium tickets remain. Parking in campus lots is included in the price of this ticket.
