Raymond Polczak, 94 of Oswego, surrounded by his family at his bedside, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday Jan 11th 2018.
Raymond was born Oct 24 1923 in Elbert, West Virginia to Father Stanley and Mother Anna. He is survived by his Eldest sister Virgina Doviak of Oswego and younger sisters Lucy Emery of Mexico and Lavina Ballard of Texas. Passing on before him was his Brother Ted Polczak, sisters Stella Delia and Irene Petta
From the deep dark coal mines of West Virginia to the open dairy farm ranges of Upstate New York, Ray Graduated from High School in Pulaski where he lettered in Football. After graduation he entered into the United States Army in 1943. During his time with the Army Ray submitted his request for detached service with hazard pay, 1 week later men in uniforms came to his barracks and told him he was no longer with the Army, he was now with the State Dept and a member of the OSS. Stationed in Rangoon, Burma his squad would fly night missions in hostile territory delivering supplies to friendlies that gathered intelligence for us on the Japanese. Following the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Japan flew into Rangoon, Burma with the official declaration of surrender where Raymond was front and center. He was honorably discharged from service in 1946.
He met and married his beautiful wife Mary Siembor in 1947 and had one son Raymond Jr.
Raymond worked as a pipe fitter Local 73 for 37 years, building the Oswego Hospital, Oswego State, the Steam plants and many other buildings. His favorite activity in life was fishing, he traveled all over the United States as well as Canada.
Raymond is survived by his wife Mary, his son Raymond Jr, daughter-in-law Arlene, grandchildren Liza, Adrian, Mike, Cheryl, Karen, Jason, Jason, Rich and Melissa as well as 14 great grandchildren.Calling hours will be Wed Jan 17 4-6pm at Nelsons Funeral Home 11 W. Albany Street Oswego, Ny 13126
Funeral Services will be held Thursday Jan 18 at 11am at St Stephens Church, 138 Niagara St Oswego, burial at St Peters Cemetery.
