Rick Sivers was a recent guest at Oswego Rotary to promote the upcoming Bemelman’s Festival running May 12 – May 20. You ask what is a Bemelman?
Ludwig Bemelman was the author of the “Madeline” series of books. Mr. Bemelman was also a Private in the US Army and was stationed at Fort Ontario in 1917. At the core of the Festival will be Sivers new comedy, “My War with the United States” adapted from Bemelman’s own hilarious account of his exploits while stationed at Fort Ontario. At the time, Fort Ontario was the largest Army hospital in the United States with the 19 year-old Bemelman serving as an orderly in hospital units and at other locations around the Fort.
The Oswego Player’s production will be staged in the Frances Marion Brown Theater in the Oswego Civic Arts Center on May 13,14,20 and 21st. For additional information: Oswegoplayers.org or [email protected]
