Ronald Allan Engel, 78 of Oswego died suddenly while visiting his daughter in Columbia, SC.
He was born in Ashtabula, Ohio on July 27, 1936 and was the son of the late John Jacob and Ethel Avis Jackway Engel. Mr. Engel received his BS Degree from Baldwin Wallace University in Berea, Ohio and his MS and PhD. Degrees from the Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio. He was a member of the Sterling Nature Center Board of Directors and had served as Treasurer. Mr. Engel was a member of the Fair Haven Yacht Club and the Syracuse Power Squadron and had taught boating classes in Oswego. He was a member of the H. Lee White Marine Museum, the Sterling Historical Society and the Oswego County Historical Society. Mr. Engel had previously worked at the Rice Creek Field Station and retired from the Biology Dept. at SUNY Oswego in 2002.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Helen Butterfield Engel, one daughter Helen Avis "Christine" Gonzalez of Oswego, one son, Michael (Kim) Engel of Watertown, one sister Roberta (Dr. James) Boucher of Columbus, Ohio, six grandchildren, Devin Engel, Madison Engel, Carli Engel, Morgan Engel, Keith Davis, Christian Gonzalez, one great grandchild, Peyton Engel and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held 9:00AM Friday at the Dain-Cullinan Funeral Home.
Burial will be in Westfield Cemetery, Westfield, NY.
