Ruth O. Brennan, 91, died peacefully January 31st, 2018 surrounded by family.
Ruth was the youngest daughter of William G. O'Brien and Louise FitzGibbons, and was born January 26th, 1927.
Besides her sister Ellen of Oswego, Ruth is survived by her children, Ellen Brennan Hanley of LaMarque, Texas, James Francis, William John and Timothy Dennis Brennan of Oswego, NY; 6 grandchildren, James Patrick Hanley, (Dejan Krunic), Maura Ellen Hanley (John Hanley), Elizabeth Maria Glover (Jared Glover), Angela Ruth Hanley, Edward Vincent Hanley, Zoé Anne Brennan, and 6 great-grandchildren, Connor Baker, Christopher Baker, Alexander Ochoa, Matthew Glover, Zora Hanley-Krunic and Erin Hanley.
She is survived as well by Anne Marie Inch Candee of Fulton, NY. Anne Marie was a dear friend for over 30 years and became another daughter.
After graduating high school in Oswego in 1944, Ruth earned a Bachelor's Degree from the College of New Rochelle, and a Master of Social Work from Boston College.
In 1954 Ruth married James F. Brennan of Brookline, Massachusetts. They had 4 children, and were happily married until his death in 1981.
The bulk of Ruth's working career was spent in the City School District of Oswego where she served for 20 years as a School Social Worker.
Ruth's mind was active and interested. She was a student of human nature, and loved helping people improve their lives and circumstances. She was very skilled at helping people solve problems and challenges, and she excelled at helping children get the most out of their education.
She had a genius for making and keeping wonderful friends from all phases of her life.
After her retirement, Ruth enjoyed travel both domestic and international.
Calling hours will be held from 10:00 to noon Saturday, with a funeral service to follow at noon at the Dain-Cullinan Funeral Home, 112 East Second Street in Oswego.
Burial will be in St. Paul’s Cemetery at a later date.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions can be made to the Friends of Oswego County Hospice, PO Box 102, Oswego, NY 13126, an organization Ruth respected and for which she volunteered.
