Seaglass is a brand new dance band that combines the diverse talents of three seasoned and dynamic musicians. They have a unique, wide-ranging repertoire from classic New England contra dance tunes to French balfolk and English Country Dance music, weaving in roots-rock grooves and captivating improvisations. Seaglass has been received with great enthusiasm by dance communities ranging from the northeast all the way to California and even in Paris, France!

The band consists of Rachael Bell on the accordion, Eileen Nicholson on fiddle and Andrew VanNorstarnd on guitar. All accomplished musicians in their own right, combined they bring an energy and enthusiasm that is sure to get your feet tapping and body moving.

Rachel is an accordion player, tunesmith, and music teacher from the wilds of Pennsylvania. She is in demand throughout the United States and beyond for concerts, contra dances, English country dances, French dances, and workshops.

Rachel’s playing is infused with a contagious enthusiasm for her instrument and a deep love for the musical traditions she carries. Her passion is to share with others the delight she finds when immersed in this music, ushering them into a place where their toes can’t help tapping and their ears are dunked in strawberry jam.

Eileen Nicholson began studying violin at age 4 as a classical Suzuki violin student. Her appreciation of fiddle music followed soon thereafter as a result of her family’s interest in folk arts. Eileen been playing lead fiddle for contra and English country dances since 2005. She frequently plays fiddle for dances in Central New York and beyond as a member of several bands such as Happy Endings, Fancy That, and Hey for Three.

Accomplished multi-instrumentalist Andrew has several CDs to his credit. Performing with his brother Noah, he has been showcased at the Lake Eden Arts Festival in NC, Grey Fox Bluegrass Festival and Falcon Ridge Folk Festival in NY, KVMR Celtic Festival in CA, Suwannee Springfest in FL, Midpoint Music Festival in OH, as well as the Prairie Home Companion. As Country Dancers of Rochester puts it “Andrew brings his energy, enthusiasm, and wide experience as a dance musician to provide foot-tapping, whole-body grinning, can’t-wait-to-get-on-the-dance-floor music.”
