Assembly Minority Leader Ed Ra (R-Franklin Square) issued the following statement on today's announcement by Gov. Kathy Hochul that she will seek changes to state emissions deadlines in the 2026-27 State Budget negotiations:

"Today's announcement by Gov. Hochul acknowledges a reality that has been apparent for some time: New York's current energy roadmap is unaffordable and unattainable. Republican lawmakers, industry leaders, NYSERDA and even the state comptroller warned that emission targets were not going to be reached and costs were going up. While I agree with the governor that timeframes need to be significantly adjusted, we can't stop there. Costly and misguided energy policies like the electric vehicle and school bus mandates, '100-Foot Rule' and Climate Superfund Act should be reassessed or repealed.

We are not going to deliver affordable energy with a piecemeal approach. New Yorkers getting crushed under the weight of rising costs need more from Albany than simply pushing back dates on a calendar. They need a new direction that is realistic, reliable and fair."
