Oswego State’s student-athletes, along with Dr. Jerald Woolfolk, vice president of Student Affairs, took the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge following the men’s soccer game on Sept. 10.

A few hundred Laker athletes came to the event after being challenged two weeks ago by the College’s President, Deborah F. Stanley.

The student-athletes, athletics staff and Dr. Woolfolk also contributed money that will be donated to the ALS Association in honor of Jean Grant, the former Director of Walker Health Center and wife of former Vice President of Student Affairs, Dr. Joe Grant.

After accepting the challenge from President Stanley, Dr. Woolfolk issued a challenge to Tucker Scholtes, the president of the Student Association. At that point there was just one item left on the agenda, as men’s soccer players Jon Runge and Harrison Rieber dumped a bucket full of ice water on Dr. Woolfolk. The student-athletes were also doused, as the grounds crew used a water canon to spray the group on the cool, windy Oswego day.

Oswego is proud it could bring not only awareness, but a contribution, to fight the debilitating disease.
