The Amboy 4-H Environmental Education Center would like to introduce its program Traveling Turtles. Happening on Friday, June 19th, 2026, from 10:00am to 11:30am, this program is open to people of all ages and will focus on turtles found across the state of New York.
Seldom seen during other times of the year, turtles are frequently found crossing roads during May and June.
This program will begin inside and conclude with an outdoor portion. Participants will learn about the lives and preferred habitats of these ancient reptiles, discover what causes them to cross roads this time of year, and receive tips on how to help a turtle safely get where it’s going. A special appearance by a painted turtle and a guided trek in search of basking turtles will conclude this program. In addition, attendees may choose to take home free Norway spruce or red oak saplings, while supplies last.
This program offers a unique opportunity to have a broader understanding of turtles and how to help them out. The program fee is $4.00 per person and up to $12.00 per family. Advanced registration is encouraged, as space is limited. To register for this program, visit https://reg.cce.cornell.edu/TravelingTurtles_235.
