Write a commentThe Art Association of Oswego announces a memorial exhibition of artwork by the late Ed Demm, and an exhibition of large-scale abstract work by seven area artists.
Both shows will open with a reception from 5-7 p.m. on Saturday, October 12. This reception is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served.
In the downstairs gallery, there will be the memorial show called Remembering Ed. A former member of the Oswego Police Department and a graduate of SUNY Oswego, Ed Demm was an extraordinary artist and craftsman. He served on the board of the Art Association as Treasurer for over 20 years. Painting was his passion, but he was also skilled at drawing, printmaking and graphic design, besides being a top-notch carpenter.
Occupying the upstairs gallery will be a show called Largely Abstract The participants include Al Bremmer of Sterling and Paul Garland of Fair Haven, both professors emeriti from the Art Department at SUNY Oswego; Shirley Penman of Auburn, former printmaker at SUNY Albany, Suzanne Gaffney Beason and Bill DeMott of Oswego, current faculty members at SUNY Oswego; Tyrone Johnson-Neuland, Assistant Director of Campus Technology Services at Oswego State; and Kim Braun, a freelance artist and designer from Williamson.
Both shows will continue until November 3. The Art Association of Oswego is housed in the Oswego Civic Arts Center, located at 20 Barbara Donahue Drive, directly across from Fort Ontario. Regular gallery hours are from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturdays, and from 1 to 4 p.m. on Sundays. Admission is free.
