“For the last 24 years, the United Way Walk-A-Thon has taken place to financially assist people in Oswego County,” said Dr. Laura Brown, SUNY Oswego professor and Vega supervisor. “What we’re doing here changes lives and families in Oswego for the better. The Walk-A-Thon is a benefit from the community for the community.”
The first 150 participants to register for the 5K walk around campus will receive a free Walk-A-Thon T-shirt. A $5 registration donation to the United Way will contribute to efforts to improve the quality of life for many residents of Oswego County. The event will also feature donated door prizes from local businesses including Pizza Villa, Franco’s, Sub Shop, The Oswego Movie Theater and Lighthouse Lanes. Snacks and bottled water will be provided.
Volunteer hours can be acquired at the walk for club, Greek life and residence hall requirements. The walk can also be followed on social media platforms with the hashtag #IWalkUnitedWith. Last year, SUNY Oswego students and other members of the community raised $745 to support United Way. Supporters who are unable to attend but wish to contribute can make a donation at www.oswegounitedway.org.
