Oswego Speedway and the United States Auto Club have partnered to bring back the Eastern Honda Performance Development Midget series to the `Steel Palace`, joining the $10,000 to win Mr. Novelis Supermodified program on August 2.

The USAC Eastern HPD Midget calendar features 30 dates from April through November, encompassing more than a dozen venues in five states.

Oswego Speedway's event on August 2 will be paired with a Friday night show at Williamson, N.Y.'s Spencer Speedway, and will mark the first time in several years that the division has competed on the Speedway's inner short track.

The HPD Midgets, formerly known as both Focus and Ignite Midgets, have helped produce several up and coming open-wheel racers. Among those graduates include current Novelis Supermodified drivers Jeff Abold and Shaun Gosselin as well as 2012 Novelis Supermodified Rookie of the Year, Jarett Andretti.

The HPD Midget series is a regional division of USAC, utilizing cars identical to the midgets seen in USAC's National Midget Championship, with the exception of the engine. HPD Midgets compete with a sealed 2.0L 4-cylinder power plant.

The pavement portion of the National HPD Midget series is split into three regions including Eastern, Midwest, and Western.

The Eastern series will compete up and down the coast in 2014 with events in North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, New York, and Ohio.

Oswego Speedway's event in August is expected to draw racers from the Midwest region, which contends in Ohio and Indiana, making for a battle in the center of the two regions.

Last year's Eastern HPD Midget championship saw a total of 31 drivers score points, with Greensboro, N.C. pilot Chris Lamb claiming the series title over Wil Raber, Tyler Corriher, Blane Leydig, and Calvin Carroll.

The 2014 Eastern HPD Midget series opens on April 5 at Orange County Speedway in Durham, N.C. and concludes with the John Blewett III North/South Shootout at Caraway Speedway in Asheboro, N.C., Oct. 31-Nov. 1.
